In Phage Lab, we develop tailored projects, based on a problem that each client needs to solve. We currently work with large production companies in the poultry, pork, livestock, and aquaculture industries, both in Chile and around the world. That is what we offer, and honestly, we are very good at it.

The use of phages as a technology to eliminate bacteria allows for increased animal health and welfare. By using phages as a palliative treatment, the use of vaccines and antibiotics are reduced. Additionally, the use of chemicals and other bactericides that generate significant damage and alterations to the microbiomes as a natural barrier is reduced.

We intervene in the industrial process to identify and characterize bacteria of interest, using microbiology, genomics, and bioinformatics tools.

1. IDENTIFICATION AND ISOLATION BACTERIA OF INTEREST.

We search, isolate, mark, and sequence the appropriate bacteriophages to eradicate the bacteria of interest.

2. SEARCH AND CHARACTERIZATION OF BACTERIOPHAGES.

We implement production processes in bacteriophages of cGMP quality and adapt the product according to the client’s needs and the corresponding health regulations.

FAGOLAC
TO THE RESCUE OF CALVES.

The first bacteria controller for calves, based on bacteriophages. A feed additive developed for the prevention of infectious diarrhea caused by Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp, diseases that cause the death of 20% of calves. It has been used in more than 75,000 animals in Chile. FAGOLAC does not create toxicity problems on the animals, and its exclusive formulation does not modify the flavors or aroma of milk and milk substitutes, which facilitates the intake by the animal.
